Frequently asked questions

Is this a penetration test?

No. LanternCheck reads public DNS records and, for verified customers, makes one normal homepage request per check. It doesn't look for vulnerabilities by attacking anything.

Can you check a domain I don't own?

The free check only reads public DNS, which anyone can see. Paid website monitoring needs you to prove ownership with a DNS TXT record and confirm in writing that you're authorised.

Will you certify me for Cyber Essentials?

No. Only IASME-licensed Certification Bodies can certify you. We help you get ready.

What data do you keep?

For customers, we keep account details, the domains you monitor and the check results. For the free check, we keep nothing unless you ask us to email you the report. See our privacy notice.

How do I subscribe to a paid plan?

You can purchase the £29 Health plan directly via Stripe on our pricing page or right after running a free domain check. For Compliance / Health + Readiness (£79/month), the £99 Cyber Essentials Readiness Report, or the £149 Agency plan, use our contact form and we will set you up.

What if a check finds a problem?

You get a plain-English explanation and step-by-step fix. On request, we can write the instructions for your web developer.

Is your email set up to be trusted?

Free, passive and no sign-up. About ten seconds.
